Hi, I am Samarpita. After almost 15 years as a corporate lawyer, I achieved a long time dream of joining the ESG and Sustainability space as a professional. Suddenly I was surrounded by a whole host of acronyms and standards and guidelines and codes of conducts.
I came from a background of corporate law, where deals move quickly but the law moves very slowly. The world of ESG and Sustainability is the complete opposite, things are moving fast, concepts are being tested, standards are being developed to be overtaken by or integrated in to other standards (TCFD to ISSB in 2024), laws are being used innovatively (greenwashing litigation).
As a lawyer, I look at ESG from a lens different from that of, say an investor or a portfolio manager. When I looked around, I did not find a course or program that will look at ESG from the legal lens and making it more accessible for lawyers who are interested in this field, whether from a career perspective or from a compliance perspective.
Join me in this blog where I try to demystify ESG for you and me because it looks like ESG is here to stay.
